La Fille du Docteur

A limited edition artist’s book that records the unfolding of a striptease performance; both artist and “strip-artist” in this readymade routine are Sophie Calle. La Fille du Docteur is comprised of fifteen reproductions of photographs of Calle in various states of undress, enveloped calling cards reproducing the original annotated cards presented to Calle’s parents on the occasion of her birth, and translated text in English. La Fille du Docteur extends Calle’s life-long autobiographical project of collapsing the social within the personal so as to investigate the methods and reasons that the two poles are often held apart.
