Christopher Wool
Black Book

Artist's Book

The characters represented by the 17 word drawings of Black Book delimit a world of deception and fear. At the same time, the semantic breakdown and graphic reconfiguration of individual words lend them the stability of abstractions. In making a book of word drawings, Wool returns his words to the printed medium from which they are derived, while the book’s meticulous printing and high quality paper allow the drawings to maintain the refined physicality of individual works of art.
